Body Storage in a Morgue
The body must be stored in a secure cooler, preferably under lock and key. Only a limited number of individuals should have a key. A complete log sheet of the body arrival time and all encounters with the body should be maintained indefinitely. This log should include all valuables found on or with the bod. Any personal item that is not considered to be evidence should be logged, described, and retained for the family. Items that appear to have no value to the investigator might have value to the family, so care of these items is recommended. Once lost, cheap trinkets can become “expensive jewelry”. Valuables can also become evidence.
